People are screaming as they drive by on the busy street outside my house in East Vancouver.

Wooooo! Honk honk honk! Yeahhhhhhhhhhh! Ship horns blow in the harbour. And a wind has blown up in the air. The crows are cawing. Even 20 minutes after Canada beat the U.S. 3 – 2 in overtime – the freaking out continues.

“In Vancouver – at Pender and Abbott, every direction, even the homeless tent city, people are screaming and cheering” says @rjjago on Twitter.

On Twitter people are reporting a lot of crying. One woman says her husband’s tears are dripping into his beer. Others are tweeting excerpts from our national anthem O Canada. “Damn I love my national anthem!”

“Congrats team Canada! You just made the whole country’s day!”

I’d be curious to hear your stories. What are some of the more extreme freak-outs you saw in the aftermath of this win?

Update: Here’s some photos of what’s going on downtown, from John Bollwitt on Flickr. CBC radio 5 p.m. reports Tranlink has suspended bus service into and out of downtown – and people are advised to start walking.
