Cool cake art attack
Underneath all this colourful pizazz is a chocolate cake requested by a three-year-old birthday boy who loves guitars.
It was made by Jen, mom of my son’s younger brother and sister. For the past few years, she’s had so much fun with these cakes that she’s thinking of making and selling them.
The wee birthday boy has loved music since he was a baby. I used to sit with him on my lap at the piano, before he could walk, and he tapped the keys for nearly an hour at a time. These days, guitar is his favorite instrument, so his mom worked hard to reflect this theme with cut-out guitars pasted to the table cloth and apartment door, and blow-up plastic guitars for playing. I noticed grandma and grandson were jamming to the Happy Birthday song, at one point.
See the strings, frets, and flame design with a sound hole made of deep blue jelly? It was almost a shame to cut into it – but impossible not to.
