Revamping my ergonomic setup
I’m a self-employed mom of a home learning kid – so being mobile is very important to me. I often work in my car on my Mac laptop, which is where I took the picture for this post, using PhotoBooth. I use my iPhone to tether my lap top, and I should probably take a second look at the cost of this method. But for now, it’s working for me.
My home office desk is not working for me. It’s because I switched desks with my kid and no longer have leg room under the keyboard tray. Now the PC computer tower and the printer and a drawer are where my legroom once was.
In fact, I’m going to keep this post short. I am dealing with the desk situation tonight because I can barely stand it any more. Read back a couple of posts about my back pain. Well it went to my chest and lingers there still. I need a solution – so I will review this PDF from WorkSafeBC (one of my long-time clients) How to Make Your Computer Workstation Fit You.

OOOOOOOhhhhhhh!!! I feel your pain girl!!!How are things today?
Susan, change it as soon as possible. I think we underestimate how much chair, desk and lighting affect us. I invested in a good chair about 7 years ago and then just got an adjustable-height desk (I can even stand at it if I wish) and it’s made a world of difference.
“I often work in my car on my Mac laptop” — Susan! Augh, what!?
On the car thing… I was a car co-op member, but I got my own car because of transporting to meet with clients around the Lower Mainland and to take my son to childcare and all his activities which are spread out all over the place. I do consider selling it to pay off debts and be kinder to the environment… But it’s very challenging to move myself and son around to so many places by transit and he’s too young to ride far on a bike (but too big to tow on one). As for the Mac laptop… well that’s opposed to my PC desk top at home. It’s new to me in the past few months (thank you Visa) and I have a way of using both computers for different things. One such use of the laptop is from inside my car, while I sit outside a skatepark or in the waiting rooms of swimming pools or ice rinks. I have to fit in bits of work whenever I can – at all kinds of weird hours and locations…
