Sporting his new do-it-yourself pinwheel from Vancouver's Spool of Thread

This do-it-yourself pinwheel from Spool of Thread was one of the cool things I got in my swag bag from Kimli at Northern Voice. I brought it home and gave it to my son – Captain Crafty – and he was excited to start on it right away.

Now I’m curious to go in person to check out Spool of Thread – at Fraser and Kingsway (649 E. 15th Ave #101). This “sewing lounge” opened at the beginning of 2010, and according to the card that came with our pinwheel supplies and instructions, they offer “modern fabric, sewing patterns, and a space to sit and sew. Our lounge is a friendly spot to work on your project, pick out a new pattern or sign up for a sewing class.”

Spool of Thread is looking for “a few experienced sewists” to teach these classes – so follow up with them if you are interested. Drop a resume at their lounge or email to: blog@spoolofthread.com

I see on their blog, they are looking for: “Experienced sewers with a great personality and an understanding of customer service. Spool of Thread plans on offering a full range of sewing classes from beginning to advanced, including apparel, accessories, home decor and quilting. We are open to both teachers interested in teaching core classes on a regular basis and crafters looking to teach a special workshop.”

Thanks again to Kimli and to Spool of Thread for donating this cool project. It was great fun.
