Blogging

COMING SOON…

A new blog, SpeakingofSafety, shares stories from people who work in health and safety. I comb for stories in Twitter, LinkedIn, blogs, YouTube and, when I find something interesting, I ask people to tell me more…

Many thanks to WorkSafeBC for sponsoring this project. I have a history with WorkSafeBC that dates back to 1998, when I wrote my first feature story for WorkSafe Magazine. It was about a new campaign to focus on workers between 15 and 24 – “young workers.”

I write health and safety stories for WorkSafeBC, the Construction Safety Network; the B.C. Forest Safety Council; and the B.C. Food Processors Health and Safety Council. Writing about occupational health and safety (OHS) issues involves a lot of interviews with people who have been injured at work – and many of their stories are heart-breaking. Yet many more stories are inspiring, as people show their strength to overcome huge challenges in life.

Considering my interest in OHS – and online communicating in general – it seemed natural that I should blog for SpeakingOfSafety, along with guest bloggers who are injured workers, OHS professional, etc.

A designer is putting the finishing touches on SpeakingOfSafety and we will launch in February, 2010. I’ve got several posts “in the bank” ready to go – and please do let me know if you have an idea. I’m especially interested in why people chose careers in health and safety.
